We are feeding more and more families with our “1 CAN A WEEK, YES WE CAN” Program.
Over the years we have worked with the families of food insecure children in various public schools and community programs providing supplemental food supplies. In 2013 we started our mass distribution of food bundles to 100 families at Glassmanor Elementary School, which was at the time, the neediest Title One Elementary School in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
In 2017, we served over 1000 individuals, with turkeys, chickens, non-perishable food supplies, fresh fruits and vegetables and snacks.
Two hundred families were given groceries at the end of December before the students left for the holidays.
These families are identified by the principals and counselors in the schools.
We covered 9 schools in 2017.
Supplies were given to various warm-nights programs.
Multiple ad hoc support was given to families periodically when requests are made for help.
The Shepherd’s Cove Women and Children’s Homeless Shelter in Prince George’s County has been given, turkeys, food supplies, sofas as our commitment to fulfill their wish list. Through our partners and volunteers, we collected and distributed work attire, adult and children’s coats, and hats and gloves for the children.
Our largest fund raiser event is the Charity Carrousel Golf Tournament. This year we will host our 6th

Thanks to our many volunteers, we have been able to serve many families in our community. We welcome individual givers, organizations, sports teams, offices, etc. who can join by creating a giving program even for a short period of time. Ultimately, our objective is to create ongoing small giving through communities of people, so families can get supplemental food supplies all year long.

Poverty statistics in 2012 in the US:
46.5 Million People were living in poverty
26.5 Million People between the ages of 18 -64 were living in poverty
16.1 Million Children under the age of 18 were living in poverty
3.9 Million Seniors 65 years of age and older were living in poverty

49 Million Americans lived in Food Insecure households;

7 Million Households experienced Very Low Food Insecurity
In the state of Maryland, despite the ongoing and improving record to stem this issue, the latest figures indicate:
The food insecurity rate is 13.1%m | Child food Insecurity rate is 19.3%
I believe we can do our part to reduce these numbers, if many people give a little all the time there should be more than enough to feed hungry families in our community.
